Well after two years into the experience, I finally decided to start documenting my wife's and I's journey from our first career into our second. After twenty years of heavy stress, we opted for a change in our environment and choose to pursue a career in photography.
In our case, mixing hiking to take pictures is something we like to do and then getting paid for it sounded like a great idea.
So, to catch up to the present, we moved to Homer Alaska in the summer of 2012, and started our new career. We are in the process of retraining and are full time photographers at the local college, have been accepted into the Ptarmigan Art Cooperative, have a hiking blog going, and started selling pictures on stock. We've invested $$$$ into the path and our only profitable experience is the blog at 89 cent and stock at $2.34.
Looking back, we way under researched our chosen path and possible income levels. After two years we've figured out that photographers come in many flavors: wedding photographer, teacher, journalism, stock, and we're still adding to the list. However, obtaining data on art of the possible in their funding streams seems impossible which is one of the reason I'm starting this blog.
Another success point was after 5 months of blog we obtained an adsense account.
Today's to do business list:
- restock postcards at Ptarmigan
- experiment with dark filter and moving waters
- edit at least two pictures for stock
